We are excited to be welcoming an exhibition featuring an internationally significant collection of Roman artefacts to our Museum of Archaeology.

We’re celebrating the proud cultural heritage of County Durham by supporting an exciting programme of cultural projects and activities over the next few years. County Durham was recently shortlisted for the UK Government’s UK City of Culture title for 2025. In the end we narrowly missed out but working on the bid has helped forge even stronger relationships with culture partners, providing a catalyst for exciting future collaborations.

Our Oriental Museum will be hosting its annual Buddha’s Birthday celebration on Sunday 15 May from 12-4pm.

See Durham’s history come alive like never before in celebration of the International World Heritage Day on April 18. There will be open tours and a medieval re-enactment at Durham Castle and at Palace Green Library there will be themed activities around the Lindisfarne Gospels - with your own, family friendly, crafty creations to take away. And you will have the opportunity to visit our World Heritage Site Visitor Centre.

Historic Cosin’s Library will be re-opening its doors to visitors on Wednesday 13 April. After being closed for several years, essential conservation work is now complete and the library and its collections are now more accessible and enjoyable than ever before.

The Oriental Museum held an event recently to renew ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Museum of Japanese History and celebrate the highly valued partnership.

Students and community volunteers will spring into action to help celebrate the spectacular Indian festival of Holi at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s Oriental Museum.

As a global University, with staff and students from over 120 countries, we were delighted to take part in celebrations across Durham City centre on 5 February to welcome the Year of the Tiger. This event marked a particular highlight in Durham’s varied cultural calendar.
